A very hot and steamy weekend ahead with the heat index reaching the upper 90's to near 100°. Rain chances will be 40% for Fri, then 30% for the weekend. With the onshore wind, most of the weekend storm activity will be inland and toward the east coast of Fl. Stay cool everyone!!

A small area of interest has developed in the tropics. A 10% chance of development is expected in the Bay Of Campeche or the SW Gulf. Lots of deep tropical moisture (some leftover from Cristina in the Pacific) will bring lots of rain along SE Texas coast and mainland Mexico.

Update: Shaking has been felt across much of Florida in the aftermath of the 6.1 magnitude quake just west of Cuba.
*NO* tsunami threat is expected from the earthquake.
6/8 @ 2:15pm: We've received several recent reports of shaking across Southwestern Florida within the past 30 minutes.
An earthquake has occurred just west of Cuba in the southern Gulf.
@USGS_Quakes has since revised the magnitude down to a 6.1 at a depth of 10km.

BREAKING: Rare magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck 73 miles NW of Cuba in the southern Gulf. Shaking reported all over central Florida.
The previous strongest earthquakes recorded in the Gulf were magnitude 5.8 (in 2006) and 5.9 (in 2006, intraplate). Earthquakes above magnitude 5 are rare for the region, making a 6.4 practically unprecedented in recorded history for the Gulf itself.

A whole lot of heat and humidity on tap this week, with rain chances increasing by the end of the week. Mon/Tue will bring big time heat, with temps in the low to mid 90's and only 10% rain chances. By the end of the week rain chances will soar back up to 50-60%.
