How many Minneapolis City Council members does it take for ... disagreement to break out? Apparently only 2. As evidenced by today's non-quorum committee non-meeting, where no action was taken, not even attendance. But Wonsley and Palmisano were there. youtu.be/1oJKqE7ordw?si=USII…

If this pans out, it would be a blow for the majority of the Mpls city council, who believed they had firm commitments from enough DFL state lawmakers to ensure their ordinance wouldn’t be preempted.

I should clarify: preemption is a blow, but they’re still able to claim a victory of higher pay for drivers. And if the companies stay, they won’t get blamed for them leaving.

Mpls council members who've supported higher driver pay, regardless of Uber and Lyft threats, have been waiting for this. The up-and-running status of alternatives now makes it less likely they'll budge beyond where they're at now ($1.27/mile likely to be voted on next week)

To everyone who is like, "What's it like covering Minneapolis City Hall?" and I say "It's pretty crazy," let me amend my response ...

Today was a busy day in the rideshare world. Frey vetoed the council's pay plan, and the long-awaited state study came out, which concluded, among other things, that Minnesotans are crappy tippers. (only a third of rides have tips) startribune.com/minnesota-ub…
