We conducted a systematic review of 70 years of neuroimaging research in extrasensory perception (ESP), now published in NeuroImage:

ESP, or “receptive psi,” refers to the purported acquisition of information beyond the known senses (e.g., telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition).
It remains a controversial topic, both empirically and conceptually. What conclusions can be drawn from this literature? A brief synthesis
🧵1/ New paper published:
We introduce an spatial location task and its analytical framework for testing ESP using continuous measures of performance rather than binary hit/miss outcomes.
Using data from a selected participant, we show that subtle biases in target distributions can produce misleading effects, highlighting the importance of post hoc statistical checks.
5/ In conclusion, even subtle departures from assumed statistical distributions can generate misleading effects.
The framework may also have applications beyond ESP research, including perception, memory, and decision-making studies.
The study is now published in @APA_Journals:

Taken together, the review suggests that the main limitation is not the absence of candidate effects, but a lack of conceptual and methodological convergence.
Without clearer operational definitions and more disciplined paradigms, the field is likely to remain exploratory rather than cumulative.
