SAY HIS NAME. DON'T LET HIS NAME DIE
“Trey was our little quiet light. He was sweet, well-mannered, and would give you the world if he could. We ask that you continue to keep our family in your prayers as we walk through these unforeseen times.” — Trey’s family
On Monday, 21-year-old Delta State University student, Demartravion “Trey” Reed, was found “hanging from a tree” on campus.
While the full details of Trey’s death have not yet been released, history compels us to take this with utmost seriousness. This nation carries the weight of generations of lynchings and acts of racial terror meant to silence, intimidate, and destroy Black life. In that shadow, we cannot accept silence or half truths. We demand transparency, accountability, and a full investigation into what happened to Trey.
Our hearts are with Trey’s family, his friends, and all who loved him. We honor his life, his kindness, his gentleness, his light, and we pray that the world remembers him for the joy and love he gave, not only the questions that remain about his death.
