The Review was held in Windsor Great Park during Shah Násir-ed-dín’s State Visit. The Times newspaper reported that ‘such a noble and beautiful parade ground is not to be found in all Europe’ but said that the Shah had a ‘tired and rather deserted air’. In the painting the Shah is on horseback, in front of Queen Victoria’s carriage, which has drawn up between the Royal Standard and the Royal Persian Standard. In the carriage with the Queen are the Princess of Wales and the Tsarevna. The Household Cavalry is passing in front of the royal party. The Prince of Wales is on horseback in the uniform of Colonel-in-Chief of the Rifle Brigade next to the carriage, and the Duke of Cambridge is near the Shah. Stands were erected for a large crowd of spectators, and can be seen on the right of the picture. Signed and dated: N.
