The rampant, violent Islamophobia in the UK is of no interest to the state or media.
The man accused of hitting a Muslim woman wearing a hijab with his car has been named as 31-year-old Brennan Mongan, from Sewell Road in Abbey Wood, southeast London. Police said he fled to Scotland before being located, arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, dangerous driving, criminal damage to a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance. He appeared at Woolwich Crown Court via video link, but the hearing had to be adjourned because he was unable to secure legal representation. He remains on remand, and another hearing has been scheduled for 18 June.

Today we heard the closing defence speeches of the Filton 6 trial, with all defendants except Sam Corner choosing to dismiss their lawyers and represent themselves. Corner, who in addition to criminal damage faces a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent, remained represented in court. The jury first heard a powerful closing speech from Charlotte Head, who told them: “It’s entirely possible you may be one of the last juries to get to make decisions in a case like this before even that right is taken away from ordinary people.” Full statements from Charlotte Head, Leona Kamio, and Fatema Zeinab Rajwani are now up on Real Media, with more to follow. realmedia.press/filton-6-clo…

Reading this led me to read up on German colonialism in Tanzania. Blimey, particularly brutal I was thinking, until I realised that’s what I always think when I read about any European colonialism.
