⛽️ U.S. Crude Stocks Fall Sharply as Refiners Crank Up Activity U.S. commercial crude inventories fell by 7.2 million barrels last week to 426.5 million barrels, well above the ~4 million-barrel draw analysts had expected, as refiners boosted activity to fill supply gaps caused by the Iran war, according to the official EIA statistics. 🔸 By the numbers (week ending June 5): ◽️ Crude: - 7.2 million barrels ◽️ Cushing hub: - 801,000 barrels ◽️ Gasoline: 0.2 million barrels ◽️ Distillates: -0.2 million barrels ◽️ Refinery utilization: 95.3%, up 0.6 points ◽️ U.S. crude exports: down 1.03 million bpd to 4.84 million bpd 🔹Since the US-Israel war on Iran began on February 28, US crude inventories — including the Strategic Petroleum Reserve — have fallen by 79 million barrels, with the SPR now at its lowest level since August 2023, as Washington taps reserves to offset the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz. 🔹President Trump today claimed the U.S. has secretly been moving millions of barrels of oil through “dark” transits in the Strait of Hormuz. The average number of daily dark transits has risen from 2 to 6 over the past week, according to Lloyd’s List Intelligence and Windward. The Financial Times reported the increase has been aided in part by U.S. military aerial assistance and coordination with commercial shipping. Even so, the increase does little to offset the collapse in traffic from roughly 135 daily ship transits before the war.
