PhD student in astrophysics since 2023 January 1st, working on the RNA-world hypothesis for the origin of life on Earth from the astrophysical perspective.
This review confirms that stereoisomerism is a fundamental contributor to interstellar molecular complexity.
It is already available in arXiv: arxiv.org/abs/2603.24848 ;
and it will appear soon in Open Access in the ACS Earth and Space Chemistry journal (@ACSPublications) (🧵4/4)
We have discussed the mechanisms that can explain the stereoisomeric ratios (OSR) - defined as the column density ratio of the higher-energy isomer divided by that of the lower-energy isomer (🧵3/4 ).
"INTERSTELLAR STEREOISOMERISM”: stereoisomers are molecules that share the same bonding arrangement, but differ in the three-dimensional orientation of their atoms. These are the 16 stereoisomeric pairs detected in the interstellar medium so far (🧵2/4 ):

🚨NEW RESULT!🚨 In a recent work led by @DavidSAstro99 we have detected for the first time in space the molecule H2CNCN (N-cyanomethanimine), the stable dimer of HCN of highest energy, and the most complex interstellar molecule containing the prebiotically relevant NCN backbone.
