I have deep concerns about the direction this platform is taking.
We will continue to post here about key matters (for the moment) but please follow bsky.app/profile/davidshoebr… for comprehensive updates.
Imagining the urgent meetings in Marles’ office… “Australia always wanted Secretary Healey to resign, this was what we thought was the best optional pathway towards AUKUS cooperation and fulfilment from day one. We want a new UK Defence Minister not one that is in service.”

yes Minister, the UK and France have recognised the Palestinian Embassies in their countries. Why not Australia? Thank you @DavidShoebridgeyoutu.be/D8rObJqyYJM?si=ngmK… via @YouTube
After years standing with this man as he fought for justice, he finally won. The Privacy Commissioner found AMEX breached privacy laws and ordered compensation. And then the Commissioner threatened him with legal action if he tells the full truth about what was done to him.
The Privacy Commissioner took 4 years to find this American multinational broke privacy laws and then threatened the complainant. Our privacy laws and the institutions meant to enforce them simply aren’t in the corner of communities.
I want to pay tribute to the complainant. He stood up to a giant American corporation, endured years of delay and real mental toll, and still won. People shouldn’t have to be this brave to get justice. I’ve been in his corner for years and will be as long as it takes.
This is supremely embarrassing for AUKUS and Defence Minister Marles, the UK Defence Minister didn’t even reference AUKUS in his 2 page resignation.
But not as embarrassing as Australia pouring billions into the UK’s failing nuclear submarine industry, water in a sieve style.
Almost a decade ago then UK Defence Secretary Michael Fallon resigned just after meeting Australia’s Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne in London
Kicked off our AUKMIN meetings yesterday with what has become a tradition morning run for @RichardMarlesMP and me.
Proud to give Richard my local @RotherhamRugby team shirt and to wear his local @GeelongCats top - a representation of our nations deep friendship.
This is an important win with Labor forced to restore the sunset clause. It’s clear though that they intend to work with the Libs to expand warrant less questioning and we will keep fighting them!
When we questioned ASIO in Senate estimates about why they wanted these expanded powers, what conduct it was intended to cover, their answers were confused and unclear. If anything, they increased my concern about the what they’re doing.
The expanded criteria for warrantless questioning is so broad it could sweep up activists and community members engaged in legitimate activities with no suspicion of criminality. This looks increasingly like a tool for suppressing dissent.
The privatisation of transcripts to Canadian multinational VIQ Solutions keeps unravelling. We now know 13 federal agencies used this company, with contracts totalling more than $20 million, and an unknown number of sensitive court files were sent offshore to unvetted workers.
The Office of the Special Investigator, who is investigating ADF war crimes in Afghanistan, signed a contract with VIQ Solutions on April 2 despite the company being in administration. This is the privatisation of sensitive government work taken to its logical conclusion.
When data from court cases, war crimes prosecutions and national security proceedings are exposed that is beyond a routine data breach. The privatisation of transcription created this issue and the AG needs to impose a full audit rather than leaving agencies to review themselves
In Senate Estimates we asked hard questions of the Royal Commission into Antisemitism including how their approach is dividing communities - these questions and the responses are on my YouTube here youtube.com/watch?v=-xiF9TbG…
