Five years ago, after a U.N. human rights council inquiry condemned Israel for trying to defend its border from violent mass riots orchestrated by Hamas, Col. Richard Kemp spoke at our United Nations side event to warn the world how Hamas was planning to invade and slaughter Israeli communities.
Hamas wanted “to get through the border fence… to send people in very large numbers into Israel with the intention of getting into the Israeli communities—places like Nahal Oz, which is a few hundred meters from the border—and slaughtering Israeli civilians and abducting Israeli civilians and torturing them.” (

Four days later, the UNHRC passed a Pakistan-led resolution condemning Israel for “ongoing violations of international law in the context of large-scale civilian protests.”
