Ok so maybe I’ve been living under a rock but I’m watching a documentary on North Korea and just found out how Kim Jong-nam was assassinated?
As in, the half brother of Kim Jong Un?
It starts in 2016 when a guy who goes by “James” - a purported TV producer - approaches Siti Aisyah in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
James asks Siti if she wants to be featured in a “comedy show” that involves “pranking people”.
Siti figures “why not?” and for months, both she and another woman named Đoàn are instructed by “James” and his crew to “ambush unsuspecting members of the public” by smothering their faces with “cosmetic creams”.
These strange facials of sorts, they’re told, are all part of a haha-very-funny hidden camera TV show.
But it’s not a hidden camera TV show.
It’s practice.
Because on February 13th, 2017, Siti and Đoàn’s handler (unbeknownst to them) swaps their typical “body lotion and baby oil” for a “deadly nerve agent”.
Their target?
Kim Jong-nam, an alleged CIA informant and half-brother of the Supreme Leader of North Korea.
With their hands unknowingly covered in poison, Siti and Đoàn are ordered to rub the face of “the man in the grey suit” at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and that if they do a “good job”, they’ll get a “bonus”.
Well, they do a “good job”.
Because the man in the grey suit - Kim Jong-nam - is dead less than 30 minutes later.
Fortunately, Siti and Đoàn’s murder charges are dropped after two years.
Wild.
