I’m incredibly proud to have initiated the @ukgovbluebelt programme. 10 years on this key environmental initiative now protects over 4 million sq km of ocean, making it the biggest blue belt in the world. It is genuinely world-beating and world-leading - and, crucially, it creates a vital legacy for our children and grandchildren. Here’s to the next decade and beyond! #BlueBelt10Years
Today we celebrate 10‑years of the Blue Belt Programme🎉 For a decade, the Programme has supported #UKOTs to lead the protection and sustainable management of their waters. Discover a decade of ocean impact via our report: bit.ly/4xfB0bV #BlueBelt10Years

A pleasure to speak at Nevill Holt Festival's Health Agenda Day about the great progress we are making with genomics; finding cures for rare diseases and Alzheimer’s; and how best we should tackle prostate cancer. A really engaging and thoughtful evening at a fantastic event.

This terrible news has really knocked me for six. Alex Younger was a truly outstanding Head of MI6 during my time as PM and an exemplary public servant. He has been taken from us far too soon. Due to the nature of their work, few fully understand the service and sacrifice made by those working in our intelligence and security services - but be in no doubt, Alex made our country a safer place and we all owe him an enormous debt of gratitude for that. I had the privilege to continue working with Alex and to remain good friends after we both left office; I will miss him dreadfully. He was a remarkable man - tremendously knowledgable and insightful, but also such fantastic company and fun to be with. Kind, thoughtful; a good man in every sense. At a time when our world is more confrontational, volatile and, frankly, dangerous, his expertise and great wisdom will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Sarah and his family at this sad time. thetimes.com/uk/obituaries/a…

Today’s decision from the Health Secretary on prostate cancer screening is a missed opportunity - too timid, too slow, and lacking the bold ambition that we so desperately wanted to see. As I set out last week, I fundamentally disagree with the National Screening Committee’s advice on a future screening programme for prostate cancer, which is far too narrow. I strongly believe that if we are really to get on top of prostate cancer - the most common cancer in British men - then a proper, targeted screening programme for all those at higher risk is needed… and needed now. I welcome expanded provision of focal therapy, which I benefited from last year with my own cancer; this must be an urgent priority to make available across the NHS. And the recognition that more work is needed to screen at risk groups, such as black men, is important. But this was an opportunity for bold, decisive, life-saving action - action that would help save the heartache of too many families losing a loved-one to this disease. That, sadly, has been missed. We will continue the campaign to urge the Government to go further, faster and put in place a progressive policy that includes a proper screening programme for the most at-risk men.

Today’s recommendation from the National Screening Committee on prostate cancer screening is deeply disappointing and a real step backwards. I urge the new Health Secretary to reject it and go further - offering targeted screening for the most at-risk men. As I warned last November following the initial advice, prostate cancer is the most common cancer among British men. We are letting down too many men, their families and loved-ones if we don’t push for a wider screening programme that includes all high-risk groups. Prostate cancer can be symptomless early on - as it was in my case. That’s why screening is essential - catching the cancers early when they can be more effectively and successfully treated, like with me. If the advice is to be followed, you could be an older, black man with a family history of prostate cancer and STILL not get routinely screened. Surely, that can’t be right? There are now better screening options and more advanced focused treatments available in parts of the NHS. I benefitted from these and others could too. Yet this seems to have been ignored by the Committee. The new Health Secretary needs to be brave and bold. A more progressive and life-saving policy is within our grasp. Put in place a proper, targeted screening programme that involves all those at higher-risk. Without it, more men will die, and more families will lose a loved-one. As I said in November, this is avoidable and can be done.

I know all too well from my own experience caring for our dear son, Ivan, that for millions of patients living with rare diseases and their families, time matters. Too often patients and their loved-ones face years of uncertainty, worry and heartache, with few or no treatment options available to them. Today’s announcement from @MHRAgovuk is an important and hopeful step towards changing that, while helping the UK become a powerhouse of drug development for genetic and rare diseases. By recognising the unique challenges of developing and delivering rare disease treatments to patients, and the need for an innovative, nimble and adaptable regulatory approach, the UK is showing real international leadership, building on the success of @GenomicsEngland and the 100k Genomes Project, both of which I launched as Prime Minister. Through my work with the @OHRareDisease Centre, we see every day the extraordinary potential of scientific innovation to transform lives. What patients and families need now is a system that can move with the same urgency as the science.
Fewer than 5% of rare diseases have an approved treatment. The average diagnosis takes over five years. We're proposing a new way forward, and we want to hear from patients, families and carers like you. Open to all, respond before 30th July 2026 – brnw.ch/21x2GHn

I am deeply disturbed by the appalling attack on @Hatzola. I have seen for myself their inspiring work - volunteers working alongside the emergency services in providing a vital medical and ambulance response to the whole community. This horrific antisemitic attack is shameful.

As someone who has had a prostate cancer diagnosis, I know how important it is to make sure men get diagnosed early and receive the right treatments - so I couldn’t agree more with @RishiSunak and the campaign for a national targeted screening programme. dailymail.co.uk/debate/artic…

On #RareDiseaseDay I can’t help but think of our darling Ivan who died 17 years ago, almost to the day. But in my role at @OHRareDisease, I’m also filled with great hope and excitement at the tremendous strides being made to find new treatments and cures. telegraph.co.uk/gift/4b4f235…

Not all stories end the way they should. Every 3 minutes, dementia steals a happily ever after. Only through research can we change how the story ends. As President of @AlzResearchUK, I'm proud to support the #ChangeTheEnding campaign. youtu.be/gQVkNVPm2J0 #ForACure

I am appalled at the politically motivated prosecution and sentence handed down to Jimmy Lai in Hong Kong, following his National Security trial. This is an affront to freedom of speech and to China’s commitments made under the Sino-British Joint Declaration. I join the UK Government in calling on Hong Kong’s authorities to release Jimmy Lai and end his ordeal. China must know that the world is watching - we stand with Jimmy Lai and the people of Hong Kong.

With Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, Central Europe continues to be front & centre of geopolitical events. So it was a pleasure to speak at @AspenInstCE’s Annual Conference in Prague about global disruption & security - & to see my good old friend, former PM Mirek Topolánek

I'm very proud of the school reforms we put in place after 2010, building on good work by Tony Blair that we had supported in Opposition. And then, with Free Schools, we went much further. The results are in and their success is clear.

So it's tragic that the Government is now undermining the changes we made and slamming the brakes on the Free Schools programme. The House of Lords will be debating the changes this week - we should tell the Government to think again. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/02…

Given the current geopolitical turbulence, there could not have been a more appropriate time to teach my course, 'Practicing Politics in the Age of Disruption’, this month at @NYUAbuDhabi. While it's easy to be depressed about the news right now, I returned from the UAE with optimism having been able to teach a class of such bright, engaged, discerning students, representing eight countries. With future leaders like them, there is hope.

Licensed Alzheimer’s treatments now exist, but there's still more to do before we find a 'statin for the brain'. @AlzResearchUK’s Drug Discovery Institutes are working on the vital search for new treatments. Inspiring to see their work firsthand at @NDMOxford

It was one of the greatest honours as PM to work so closely with our amazing Armed Forces. So it was a privilege to speak to those completing the Advanced Command and Staff Course at @DefAcUK - from both the UK and our allies - as they embark on the next stages of their careers.
