Sorta undermines the whole thing where American Airlines is the “official North American airline supplier to the 2026 FIFA World Cup”

So Southwest is running charters. Which makes sense, but again, teams using other airlines undermines the whole idea of American Airlines being the “official supplier.” Which we all know just means “sponsor.” But still, they miss out on photo ops. x.com/ianculltv/status/20638…

Mo Salah and #Egypt have arrived in Spokane, which will be their base camp for the World Cup. The team chartered a Southwest plane from Cleveland. (Salah in the backwards hat here.)

Optics-wise, at least. Practicality is a different story. Presumably each team figures out their own logistics.

RIP Marjane Satrapi, a brilliant mind and a wonderful soul, gone far too soon. Like many Iranians she remained dedicated to her homeland despite decades in exile: “I call Iran home because no matter how long I live in France, and despite the fact that I feel also French after all these years, to me the word ‘home’ has only one meaning: Iran.” “No matter how much I am in love with Paris and its indescribable beauty, Tehran with all its ugliness will in my eyes forever be the ‘bride’ of all cities around the world.” nytimes.com/2026/06/04/world…

Meanwhile, yes, status does improve things a lot. But the work of maintaining that status eats away at the gains.

As a friend just pointed out, the status and perks and all get you less, too. To quote her: “I get the privilege of waiting on line for the sky club.”

I’ll say again, once this season is over regardless of whether we stay up or down we should all refuse to engage with the club in any way that gives them money until ownership provides some explanation of how this happened and how they plan to prevent it happening again.
I’m at Tottenham today. No message or letter from the Lewis family owners or chief exec Vinai Venkatesham in the matchday programme. Roberto De Zerbi says “it’s not acceptable for us to be in this position…we are playing for pride, dignity and the history of our club.” #thfc

British Airways is experiencing a failure of their baggage handling system at Heathrow’s Terminal 5, with announcements encouraging passengers to just leave the airport and fill out a “lost luggage” form online. Waits are currently over 5 hours, customer service associates say.

I’ve seen almost no other coverage of this, which is sort of surprising, considering the scale of it and what a major hub LHR is. See earlier in this thread for my updated article.
