This is bad news for Canadians. Hockey is part of the national fabric. There were times in my life when I could not afford to pay for TV; I relied on CBC for hockey, news etc. Without hockey on CBC, we are losing on of the ties that bind our nation, IMHO. 🇨🇦🥅🏒

Sportsnet and CBC have just put out a joint statement where they will be ending their agreement that saw CBC carrying NHL games.
No word yet on what it means for the Hockey Night In Canada branding.

ALT After a successful 12-year partnership, Sportsnet and CBC today announced the public broadcaster will no longer carry NHL broadcasts after the current season as it moves forward with a new sports programming strategy following the unprecedented success of the Milano/Cortina Olympic Games. Watching hockey on Saturday night is a time-honoured tradition for Canadians, and Sportsnet is privileged to continue delivering that tradition. This has been a terrific partnership, and both parties look forward to continued opportunities to collaborate in the future.

Add in radio, and it's been a Saturday night fixture for families on CBC for 90 years.
There has never been a Canadian cultural institution like it, and there never will be again.
