Jennifer Servo was born on September 23, 1979 in Columbia Falls, Montana. She graduated high school in 1998 and college from the University of Montana in May 2002, with dreams of becoming a prominent news anchor. Shortly after graduation, Servo landed her first full-time reporter job at KRBC-TV in Abilene, Texas. However, her career was cut tragically short.
In the early morning hours of September 16, 2002, 22-year-old Servo was found murdered in her second-story Abilene apartment. Her body was discovered clothed and bloody in the bathtub. The autopsy revealed she had suffered extensive blunt force trauma to her head, bruising consistent with strangulation around her neck, and bruises indicating possible sexual assault. Defensive wounds were not noted.
The crime scene and condition of the body provided crucial investigation details; there were bloody drag marks suggesting Servo’s unconscious body had been moved. Certain personal items were also determined to be missing. Despite no signs of forced entry, indicating Servo possibly knew her attacker, no arrests have ever been made.
Initial suspicion fell on Servo’s boyfriend, Ralph Sepulveda and Brian Travers, her KRBC coworker. However, the case remains a mystery, with no known motive or explanation for the shocking brutality with which the young news reporter was murdered in her own home shortly after achieving her career aspirations.
Over the past two decades, Jennifer Servo's unsolved murder has been extensively covered by news outlets and true crime shows, keeping attention on this cold case. However, many questions still remain on what exactly happened during the early hours of September 16th, 2002, and why this promising young woman’s life was stolen from her so abruptly.
