I agree that the ability to speculate on trends, culture, and narratives is going to be a massive part of markets going forward whether thatβs memecoins or prediction markets
but hereβs where I get stuck
in theory it sounds cool to take a broad idea and go long or short on it
take unemployment for example
you can see where things are heading
-more layoffs from AI
-more people opting out of traditional work
-more people looking for alternative paths to make money
so the βcleanβ trade is just going long unemployment
but where do you even express that in a way that feels real
prediction markets let you click yes on a question like βwill unemployment riseβ
and sure maybe you make money if youβre right
but it feels like thereβs no culture or identity, no alignment with the people actually living it
memecoins are different, itβs something that people can actually rally around
if Iβm long unemployment I donβt just want exposure to a number going up
I want to be positioned alongside people who see it happening, who are adapting to it in real time, who are turning it into something instead of just betting on it
thatβs what makes memecoins irreplaceable imo, they are something people actually want to hold and be part of
there are a lot of problems in the space right now but I canβt shake the feeling that a few of these coins will fully capture something real
and when they do they wonβt just trend
theyβll run hard
Iβve placed my bet
