Why is Abacha now “African salad”?
Why is Akpụ just “swallow”?
Why is Ofe Onugbu reduced to “bitterleaf soup”?
Ndi Igbo, we need to wake up. This is how identity gets diluted, slowly, casually, until it becomes normal.
Nobody translates noodles, pizza, or burgers to fit another language. Their names remain their names.
So why are ours constantly being simplified, renamed, or stripped down?
You may think it’s harmless, but this is how cultural erasure begins, little by little.
Call our food what it is. If others can keep their names, so can we.
