Our hands hurt from clapping but it was totally worth it.
On Thursday, June 4, 27 Delaware artists became the largest Artist Fellowship class in 46 years - and then promptly reminded us why, with poetry, playwriting, a rap set, and a folk duo that nobody wanted to end.
Tonight, 41 outstanding Delawareans are being recognized at the 2026 Governor's Volunteer Service Awards, including Babita Jagnana, one of this year's Paul Wilkinson Lifetime Achievement honorees.
Babita is the founder of Phoenix Family Resources, a center where individuals and families can access groceries, clothing, hygiene products, and connections to community services at no cost. In Babita's words, "Everyone faces challenges at some point in life. We all need support from others. Volunteering reminds me that communities are strongest when we take care of one another."
Honorees' work spans hunger relief, mentorship, emergency response, education, and so much more. We're proud to celebrate every single one of them.

Delaware has teamed up with Thomas Jefferson University to create the first four-year medical school in the state's history, with the first class of 40 students expected in 2028.
What it does: Establishes the Delaware Medical School Consortium, led by Sidney Kimmel Medical College, to train physicians and grant M.D. degrees entirely within Delaware
Who it affects: Aspiring physicians, patients statewide, and communities facing doctor shortages — especially in Kent and Sussex counties
When it takes effect: First student applications open early 2027; first class begins summer 2028
Why it matters: Delaware is one of only three states without a medical school — this closes that gap and builds a homegrown pipeline of doctors committed to serving Delawareans

A statewide drought watch has been declared. Do your part by reducing nonessential water use — hold off on watering the lawn and opt for non-drinkable water on grass and turf fields when you're able.
⚠️ @MattMeyerDE has declared a statewide drought watch due to ongoing dry conditions. We’re asking Delawareans to voluntarily reduce nonessential water use. Limit lawn watering and use non-drinkable water on lawns and turf fields when possible.news.delaware.gov/2026/06/03…

Mid-90s heat continues in Delaware today. @DelawareEMA's message is worth repeating: hydrate, take breaks, and never leave kids or pets in a parked car.
Temps today will climb as high as the mid to high 90's today as we see warmer temperatures continue.
Continue to make a point to hydrate and take frequent breaks. If you have anywhere to be, do not leave young children or pets in your vehicles.
Mike Purzycki was a tremendous leader and Delawarean. He served our state in numerous ways – on New Castle County Council, as executive director of the Riverfront Development Corporation transforming the Wilmington Riverfront, and as mayor of Wilmington for two terms. Mike’s legacy will be long felt and our thoughts are are with Bette and the Purzycki family.
To honor his life and service to the State of Delaware, I have ordered flags at all state-owned buildings and facilities to be flown at half-staff until sunset on Friday, May 22, 2026. #netde
Happy Mother’s Day to everyone who offers support, encouragement, care, kindness, love, and guidance to the people in their lives! Whether you're a mom, a motherly figure, a hopeful or soon-to-be mother, we celebrate you today. ❤️

Citizen Artist Exhibition featuring the Citizen Photographer Installation is Now Open at the Delaware Art Museum!
Included with Museum Admission | Now open through July 19
For the Citizen Photographer installation, 24 Delaware photographers were selected to reflect on identity, place, and civic life at the nation’s 250th anniversary, using photography to shape how Delaware’s story is seen and remembered.
Spotlighting diverse artists who shaped America during the 1930s, 1940s, and beyond. From Depression-era programs to federally funded initiatives of the 1970s, the Citizen Artist exhibition tells a powerful story of reciprocal support between artists and their communities.
Citizen Artist explores how creative work has helped document, reflect on, and transform American society, building both cultural and physical infrastructure along the way.
