The F-7P/PG is what happens when you give a '50s vintage airframe a 21st-century brain transplant. Acquired after U.S. sanctions cut Pakistan's access to the F-16 in the '90s, the F-7 was a highly customized, almost "Frankenstein" variant of the Chinese J-7. It combined an Italian Grifo-7 radar, a British HUD, a Martin-Baker Mk 10 ejection seat, and American AIM-9 AAMs, with a Soviet-designed airframe that was made in China - an absolutely crazy mashup.
The F-7 wasn't the fighter Pakistan wanted, but it was the fighter Pakistan needed to replace the aging F-6 and to bridge the gap until the JF-17 arrived. In my opinion, it's the ultimate "make-do-and-mend" success story of military aviation, but I'll leave the final verdict to you guys.
