I love coaching. PM is a hard career to get into. I had help from mentors. This way, I pay it forward. But recently I keep getting the same questions. And I get bored repeating the same answers. No one benefits from that. So I'm going to try and write out my answers.

Let's talk about north star metrics. Obviously, you should be measuring whether your product is actually successful. Here's how to make that happen. Let's talk about what they are, give you some examples, and give you a plan on how to find yours. buff.ly/3XOzKwW

This is The PM Help Desk, a blog about #ProductManagement by and for the PM’s (and future PM’s!) still #FiguringItOut. We're doing part 2 of a 5-part series talking about product KPIs and metrics.

#DataCentric ≠ a spreadsheet. Need to actually figure out what your product's #KPIs and #metrics are without the wall of numbers? Let me save you some pain. You need 4 types of metrics to get the full 360 picture of what's going on with your product.

This week, I want to talk about how I like to craft product KPIs for my #analytics. Let's get into it. buff.ly/3VO80qT

A help desk (if you will) for product managers (and future PMs) who are figuring it out. I'll write about the bread and butter topics. The day-to-day mundane things that PM's need to be successful. Things like setting up metrics, how to run 1:1's, even how to use Slack.

I want to start by saying I can't and won't take the position that changing to main has no cost. I don't code enough to opine on that. But this conversation strikes me as similar to making UI and UX accessible. Continue in 🧵

"Changing master to main changed less than nothing. Because nothing was or is ever enough in this arena. As soon as this word battle was won, it was just on to the next and the next (and the next)." world.hey.com/dhh/forcing-ma…

So to wrap this up. I'm confused if I misunderstood DHH's point because I walked away from reading thinking he's saying we shouldn't do any work on inclusive processes because this work is never ending.

If that's true, then that seems ... lazy. Especially when we have all the above to help. We should keep doing it because then we can keep iterating to better processes for EVERYONE. If we're going to do otherwise, then why the fuck are we out here building stuff? End thread.

Let me help you out and give you my thoughts on DEI 1. Diversity Good businesses look where others don't, to find the employees that will put your business in the best possible position to succeed. You may not agree, but I take it as a given that there are people of various races, ethnicities, orientation, etc that are regularly excluded from hiring consideration. By extending our hiring search to include them, we can find people that are more qualified. The loss of DEI-Phobic companies is my gain. 1a. We live in a country with very diverse demographics. In this era where trust of businesses can be hard to come by, people tend to connect more easily to people who are like them. Having a workforce that is diverse and representative of your stakeholders is good for business.

Replying to @EdKrassen
Discrimination on the basis of race, which DEI does, is literally the definition of racism

VP product leaders: you *will* get replaced if you can't make big bets in the face of ambiguity. That "I need you to be more strategic" chorus from your boss? It's a signal you're thinking too small.

There may be nothing I’ve seen wreck the careers of high-performing, hardworking people more commonly than stepping into a manager role the person isn’t ready for. At the same time, great people often seek stretch roles. So how do you know if you’re ready? >>
