I released Antichamber a long time ago. I'm currently deep down a rabbit hole exploring something else.

Hi Twitter... have a video update for once, after all my talk about tech, optimisations, bugs, etc. Perfectly seamless portals with accurate physics, rendering and collision. Long objects half sticking through double sided multi-entry portals... who needs that? Me, apparently!

For years on @Spotify, if you clicked an Artist and showed All Albums, then hit play, it would play through all songs on all albums. It recently changed to only play a single album on loop. It's so stupid. You could already do that, if you only selected that single album.

My default way of listening to an arist was to just play all of their albums, on loop. Now I can't do that unless I make my own playlist that has all of their albums in it, and just play that on loop instead.

Twice this week, I've had stupid examples of "You can use our app" that made no sense. Not technology making life more convenient or easier, just stupid ways for companies to try to force capture information unnecessarily.

She says "Sorry, I'm new here. Let me check with the manager" Then she comes back and goes "Ok, we have that handled for you. You don't need to do anything." I say "Thanks. Sorry. I understand why your company wants me to have an app, but as the purchaser, this is nonsense."

This is a worse version of "Would you like to join our membership program?", where they would at least ask for details and let you just decline. Not treat it as the standard process where you must register with their system to proceed.

So, I know a while ago I said I was going to stop playing Slay the Spire II at Ascension 9 because I didn't enjoy the balance, but... I just finished Ascension 10 with my last character yesterday, so clearly I lied. Looking forward to new characters some day.

Went back and completely rewrote collision for this thing, almost 3 years later. I needed everything faster, more immediate, and more dynamic. Getting a lot better as a programmer than when I wrote this initially lol.

You know you've made a good change when you can come back and fix bugs / add missing functionality from the previous system in only a couple lines of code in isolated locations, because everything just makes sense and is handled properly.

I really enjoyed reading this: illomens.itch.io/no-one-is-g… I am a long time deep on a project and I aim to one day sell it, but the reason I got to where I am in it is because for the longest time I completely ignored the idea of making something commercial, so I could just explore.

People like to say "Yeah but you made Antichamber so you have the freedom to do what you want"... which is a neat way to disregard the fact that it began life as a philosophical art game as a mod for Unreal Tournament 3, based on years of random technical experiments as a student

Adding commercial expectations to your creative work early on while you're still in an exploratory phase is a really good way to kill your desire to do anything interesting with it, unless you're very specifically that way inclined. I'm not.

My bug hunting abilities got significantly better recently when I started shelving current changes and syncing to older revisions to verify whether or not a bug I found was something I just introduced, or something that had already been there previously.

Saves a lot of time that I used to spend going "WHERE? WHERE DID MY NEW CODE INTRODUCE THIS??" only to find out actually it has been there for 6 months and I didn't realise until changing new stuff.
