We had the pleasure of having one of our previous residents Dr.Zaid Mahdi at our department this week! He completed a surgical pathology fellowship at the University of Michigan followed by a GI/Liver fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Feras Zaiem completed his AP/CP pathology residency and served as chief resident in our department for the class of 2021. Subsequently, he pursued a hematopathology fellowship at the University of New Mexico, training with world-renowned experts.

Dr. Zaiem is now in the process of completing an oncologic surgical pathology fellowship at the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Answer is: solitary fibrous tumor! Fun fact: this entity was initially called “hemangiopericytoma/ solitary fibrous tumor” but the former portion of the nomenclature was phased out gradually. The WHO classification of CNS tumors was the final organization to drop it in 2021.
