ALT Hospital staff in Scotland have helped to design theatre caps made from plant-based material.

ALT Diagnostic Discard: The making of a plastic pandemic is an exhibition created by Professor Alice Street (University of Edinburgh) and Professor Maïwenn Kersaudy-Kerhoas (Heriot-Watt University) on the occasion of "Plastic Pandemic: Rethinking Medical Device Innovation, Use and Disposal for a Circular Economy", a Symposium held at the Edinburgh Climate Change Institute on the 1st of June 2023. The exhibition showcases the results of a field investigation into the impact of medical waste on communities in Sierra Leone, and highlights the need for designers and manufacturers to consider the full lifecycle of tests and the environmental costs of single-use items. The exhibition explores the neglect of environmental sustainability considerations within efforts to improve access to diagnostic testing in global health and propose sustainable solutions for eco-responsible tests.
