We were pleased to welcome back our DNA 2024 Participants for this year’s DNA Champions October Campus Day!
#DNA2024#DNACHAMPS2024#KCL#CDN
After kicking the day off with an icebreaker🧊students were matched with their lab hosts from the CDN and got to observe some of their research firsthand!
Later in the day was a session focused on digital and in-person etiquette, followed up with a discussion on crafting UCAS-ready personal statements. We ended the dat with some donuts🍩 and a group photo🤳
Excited to see you all again for our February Campus Day!

After seeing how amazing all of these projects were, you can imagine how difficult it was to choose winners. Nevertheless, we did. After lunch, was the graduation and prize-giving ceremony🏆
After hearing from each group, it was time for table touring🧐Assessors and spectators had a chance to have a closer look at the posters and pieces of science communication created by the students, and to ask them questions.
And before we know it, it's the final day of the #DNA2024 summer school😭After working on their projects throughout the week, the students finally presented their work
We started with each group going up to give a quick 3-minute 'Pecha Kucha' (Japanese for chit-chat!). Along with their Pecha Kucha, some groups also presented short videos, and we even had a live performance! Each group was also asked to tell their best science joke👀
The fun didn't end there! On the fourth day of #DNA2024 summer school, we had Mel Frances return to carry out her workshop on 'Science as an Act of Care.' Students reflected on why care towards science, and the practice of care in science is important🧑⚕️🥼🩺
To finish off the session we heard from Dr Afra Aabdien and Dr Cindy Pham (@scholardiaries), who shared powerful and personal stories about their own journeys through academia👩🎓👩🏾🎓
Despite a long day, the students still had enough energy to finish their group projects (some even stayed late) which they presented the next day🖼️More about the projects in the next post!
