Usually if an adult played sports at some level they think they know how youth-adolescents should be developed. If they were successful as a pro that gives them greater confidence that they are experts whether that translates into poor behaviour or a more chill approach.
I’ve never met a crazy sports parent that played at a high level

For more context- here’s the ages of this year’s NCAA Men’s D1 2025-26 freshman class. 2004: 261 players - Age 21
2005: 148 players - Age 20
2006: 63 players - Age 19
2007: 34 players - Age 18
2008: 3 players - Age 17 (2003 and older: 14 players)
Once again, the @NCAA misses the mark. A five-year eligibility clock is reasonable, but this proposal overlooks two predictable consequences. First, athletes and their advisors will adjust high school graduation timing so the eligibility clock starts later, pushing graduation closer to age 19. Second, this creates a disincentive for academically advanced student-athletes who currently graduate at 17 and begin college coursework early while continuing their athletic development. Policies should encourage academic acceleration, not discourage it. There also does not appear to be any grandfather clauses. By the way, ncaa hockey players are among the highest graduation rates and academic success.

This may be the best (most important 🤷‍♂️) paragraph I have written in 25 years.

So happy for my son Ty, his teammates, and the whole organization! What a fantastic way to end the season! Winning league Championships is no easy task and it takes way “more” than people realize.
CONGRATULATIONS, @AbbyCanucks! 🏆 CALDER CUP CHAMPIONS!

Extremely proud of this team, staff, and entire organization including billets, families, and more. There’s many moving parts to have a championship year. In the 4 years I’ve been with them there’s been a gradual build up to this moment. 👏🏻
THE MEMORIAL CUP IS COMING BACK TO LONDON!!!!!!!!

Or in 🇨🇦 either.
Last week I lectured on Training during the Adolescent Growth Spurt in Amsterdam. An attendee asked me - "so there must be a lot of this (assessment of G&M, biobanding, etc.) going on in the U.S. Can you speak to share some of it." My response: Unfortunately, very little if any. Bio-banding finally coming to NA hockey!! 👏🏻 (It’s already being adopted in USA soccer). Been waiting years for this. C’mon 🇨🇦 we’re next. 😊 Helpful for players, families, coaches, scouts, & agents to understand growth & maturation for assessing, scouting, and planning.
Thank you to @usahockey for including our program in your bio-banding study yesterday and to the @BlueJacketsNHL on opening up @NationwideArena for the experience! Bio-banding is a method of grouping athletes based on their biological age and maturity, rather than their chronological age. Yesterday's groups included our 12U, 13O, 14U, 15O and 16U teams.

I have been waiting years and years for hockey to learn about bio-banding. I’ve taught this concept for years to hockey players & they are thankful to learn & then apply to their devp plans. 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 Come to 🇨🇦 pls. I live in an area btwn Detroit & Toronto- lots of hockey .
Great to see @usahockey experimenting with the concept of bio-banding. @TLexercise @jornalind have already done some interesting work in this area 👏🇺🇸🇸🇪🏒

If teenage athletes want to take a big step forward in development, it's wise to try to “out-sleep” and “out-eat” their peers. These two things are powerful "magnifiers" of everything they do in skill development and strength and conditioning.
