Sing ,worship and act ..
Just this morning as I led praise in songs during the Sunday service ,I led the song
“ Forever you will be...,I humbly bow my knees to worship you “🎶🎶🎶
Suddenly opening my eyes I saw a few folks still on their feet ,I wondered if they didn’t understand the meaning of “ I bow my knees “ and had to instruct them to do likewise.
In church we should all be in one accord .Many folks sing and not act .
You sing “ I rejoice “ yet stay stiff on one spot ,at times with a frown ,” franking “ your face as we say in Nigeria.
We sing “ I lift my voice “ with a whisper.
“ I bow before you “ ,standing upright .
The worst often is singing “ I lift / raise my hands “ with hands akimbo or prostrate or even worse still in our pockets .
I recall a group of friends trying to exegete away Hebrews 13:15 ,saying it’s figurative .
They sought to include 1Timithy 2:8 as not literal lifting of hands .
That’s eisegesis .
I wondered why and how they reached such a conclusion .
Soon singing will be figurative, prayer and Gathering of Saints etc and eventually then God !
Acts 20:36 KJV
[36] And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.
This is Paul demonstrating what he meant in
Ephesians 3:14 KJV
[14] For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Luke 24:50 KJV
[50] And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
Just like Jesus did
Luke 22:41 KJV
And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
Here Jesus demonstrated what had been done many times in the Old Testament.
1 Kings 8:22 KJV
[22] And Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven:
Psalm 28:2 KJV
[2] Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle.
Paul’s letters had such inclination too
1 Corinthians 14:25 KJV
[25] And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
Another literal physical action here in worship .
Acts 14:14 KJV
[14] Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of , they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,
They literally tore their clothes, choosing that God not they ought to be worshipped .
Physical actions are part and parcel of Christian worship .It shows our submission to God.We lift our eyes
John 17:1 KJV
[1] These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
John 11:41 KJV
[41] Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
Our hands
1 Timothy 2:8 KJV
[8] I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
Raise our voices ..
Acts 4:24 KJV
[24] And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord...
Even though the Father lived in him,he yet showed physical actions of obedience and submission.
We rejoice ..Acts 5:41 KJV
[41] And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
Just like Jesus..Luke 10:21 KJV
[21] In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit...
And the disciples upon his resurrection
Luke 24:52-53 KJV
[52] And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: [53] And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
I recall a song “and with our hands lifted High.....when the world wonders why ,we'll just tell them we are loving our king “🎵🎵🎵🎵
We truly love our king .So next time in church meetings when the praise leader signifies ,”Let’s lift our hands ,bow our knees “...or it’s indicated in the congregational song
Please be in one accord.
