Let's talk about #PaperCircuits and how my students actually go about making them. In total, we spent twelve days of class time on this project, (two intro days of lessons and ten days of project time), but there are easy ways to scale it back and make less of a project of it.

My hot take is yes, shiny hunting in legends ZA is busted, but so is all shiny hunting in Sword/Shield, Scarlet/Violet, and Legends Arceus. The one true method was the 3DS-era egg shiny value system, because that system relied on close-knit communities of altruists to get.

I had a set of intro problems last week where the answers were 1)6, 2)7, 3)6, 4)7 and then we went over how to convert 2.01 meters to feet (A:6'7") and later on they converted my height (5'6") into meters (1.67m) and now they act like every 6-7 is an illuminati-level conspiracy.

Features I would love to see @Classkick work on: 1) When I add in a custom sticker image, SAVE that image! I should be able to easily reuse it! 2) When importing class rosters from google classroom, don't show the archived classes. I have 10 years of identically named classes!

Hey @Classkick, this bug where sometimes the answer boxes just...don't show up for some students has been around forever and is super annoying! When this happens to a kid they have to manually create a million little text boxes and lose access classkick's instant feedback!

Rodney Hinton Jr. & the assassination of a Healthcare CEO are symptoms of the same problem: if you create absolute impunity for murderers under the law, people will stop turning to the law for justice. The idea that the government's monopoly on violence is legitimate is breaking.

To be clear, this is a very, very bad thing. I don't want to live in a society where people have to seek out justice by the sword. The only way to stop it is to end the legal impunity for cops and desk-murderers.

Nothing has solidified the moral bankrupcy of ChatGPT to me like watching people in positions of absurd political power use it to allow them to be heartlessly incompetent at never before seen scales.

Terrible news, a 7th grader of mine just explained the Monty Hall problem to me in a way that actually made sense.

So, I'm a middle school science teacher. I teach a unit on the History of Science where the whole point is to *learn how to learn from lectures*. We practice notetaking, especially *choosing* what to write instead of writing everything. The weirdest thing? They *love* it!
Replying to @pschofie79
"Lecturing is ineffective." I mean, if the students have never been required to pay attention to a lecture, and professors have never been required to write and deliver one, then yeah . . . I'll bet lectures are ineffective!"

Burying the ambulances themselves along with the medics they executed is one of the elements that makes this latest crime so extraordinary and also revealing. A group of IDF soldiers collectively agreed to use a bulldozer to bury the ambulances in sand, with the men they had just killed, on the apparent hope that nobody would notice that 15 men were missing. Consider how far down the path of dehumanization you have to be to get there.
Can't get over the IDF killing 15 paramedics in Rafah, attempting to bury them and their ambulance, claiming they were "terrorists" and then shooting to kill the rescue team sent in to find their missing friends. Not surprised, just stuck. Can't seem to move on from here.

Hot take: this actually IS a trash bill. EBT should be as good as cash. You should be able to spend it on rotisserie chickens, prepared foods, steak, candy, birthday cakes, or whatever the fuck you want.

MAHA: The American Heart Association is actively fighting legislation to prevent food stamps from being used to buy soda and candy. Why? The NGO relies on funding from Pepsi and Kelloggs.

Israel is responsible for nearly 70% of journalist killings across the globe in 2024. A total of 85 killings marks the highest number by a single country in one year since CPJ began documenting this data more than three decades ago. CPJ calls on authorities to grant unconditional access to journalists and independent human rights experts to investigate crimes committed against the media during the 15-month long war. Hot take but secret service showing up at a kid's school because of an eleven year old's anti-trump Tiktok is also dystopian as fuck.
But the school was mistaken: The agents were actually from the Secret Service, not ICE. They were investigating a threat against someone their agency had been assigned to protect, relating to the TikTok ban, a Secret Service spokesman said hours later. nytimes.com/2025/01/24/us/ch…

β€œThe IDF says the overwhelming majority of those killed in the strike were confirmed to be terror operatives. But a BBC Eye investigation verified the identity of 68 of the 73 people killed in the attack and uncovered evidence suggesting just six were linked to Hezbollah's military wing. None of those we identified appeared to hold a senior rank. The BBC's World Service also found that the other 62 were civilians - 23 of them children.” May their faces haunt their killers forever

Please, please, apologize to children when you’re wrong. I promise it means so much to them and only helps them more and more as they get older. They need to know it’s okay to be wrong, it helps build trust, and helps them with communication.
