In our "Meet the Scientist" series, we are introducing the 'who's who' in plant-soil research 🌱🧫🦠🧬 Who they are? What do they research? What fascinates them about plant-soil ecology? We'll kick off the first few with our steering committee. . . @EcolSocAus @ch_birnbaum

Hey soil fungi experts, do you know how mycorrhizae (re)form relationships with ephemeral desert plants that may have lain dormant in the seed bank before germinating after favourable rainfall events? Do the fungi also simply lay dormant as spores in the soil? For how long?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder....and in the case of these native wildflowers how could you see anything BUT beauty! Carpets of Everlastings are currently blanketing our Charles Darwin Reserve on Badimia country, WA. Thanks to Reserve Manager @J_Stingemore for the pics

I was really looking forward to attending first in-person conference in 2 years, but #melbournelockdown2021. But better virtual (conference) than none, so you can catch me talking about our #alpine #peatland #microbial work at #2021ASM @AUSSOCMIC this Thursday morning!

Had an interesting day sampling the microbiome of Bioreceptive walls in a London schoolyard today. Amazing bio-integrated designs by @UCL_Bio_ID bringing nature to our desolate urban surfaces. Imagine if most of the surface area in our cities was rich in #biodiversity

This was such a wonderful read!!! We are indeed undertaking a similar study. I look forward to hearing about your results
Did you know that there are more organisms in 1 teaspoon of soil than there are people on the planet? 🌎 If your answer is "No!”, you are not alone. Read the recent blog by @Flinders PhD candidate @peddleshawn about his work on the soil microbiome bit.ly/3ofRJsy
