On Saturday, Newman’s proudly joined hundreds of road safety advocates, boda boda riders, community leaders, cyclists, police officers, and members of the public in the 10KM Boda Boda Road Safety Walk across Rubaga Division, standing together for one message: money is important, but life is more precious.
The walk, organized under the Joe Walker Foundation’s road safety campaign, was flagged off by Benon Kigenyi and brought together stakeholders committed to creating safer roads and protecting livelihoods in Kampala.
As Newman’s, we participated fully in the walk alongside boda boda riders and fellow partners, while also fueling participants throughout the journey because meaningful community impact goes beyond words — it requires action.
The engagements held during the walk highlighted the urgent realities facing Uganda’s roads today. According to recent road safety reports, motorcycles continue to account for a significant percentage of road crash victims in Uganda, making boda boda riders among the most vulnerable road users.
Through conversations with riders and communities across Rubaga, the campaign emphasized the importance of responsible riding habits, proper use of crash helmets, motorcycle maintenance, discipline on the road, and collective responsibility among all road users.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Joe Walker Foundation for spearheading this important initiative, Kampala Capital City Authority, the Uganda Police Force, road safety advocates, boda boda associations, community mobilizers, media partners, and every individual who showed up to support the cause and walk for safer roads.
At Newman’s, we believe that strong communities are built when businesses actively participate in conversations and initiatives that protect lives and inspire positive social change. Together, we can make Uganda’s roads safer for everyone.
