NFT companies wanting to be the next Disney (check the 5yr stock chart btw 🤣) but I think we should strive to be more like a sports franchise. Just look at pics from the weekend. The people yearn for collective dopamine. Let’s be honest with ourselves. No fan’s life actually improved after their respective teams won last weekend (barring some gambling payout). Winners and losers woke up the next day with the exact same life setup they had the morning of the game. Same net worth, same love life or lack thereof. So what is it about sports that bring out so many emotions? And what is it about our current society that so many others are happy to jump on basically any bandwagon just to celebrate something? More importantly, how can we foster these types of communities via NFTs? The answer to the latter question above is one that I’ve been thinking about since day 1. PFPs tap into our innate need to belong while keeping our personal identity within the tribe. My stomach hurt last week after Game 4 of the NBA finals as the Knicks completed their historic comeback against my beloved Spurs. I can’t explain why it hurt. There’s no logical reason for it. It wouldn’t have hurt if I just hadn’t watched the game. But I did and it triggered a visceral reaction. Something to think about.
