Vesak commemorates the threefold sacred events of Lord Buddha's life, which resonate among Buddhists across the world.
Among the many traditions and interpretations of Buddhism, Sri Lanka is blessed with a unique celebration of the Vesak Full Moon Poya Day. The cultural events associated with Vesak have been built around the advancement of the Buddha Sasana and the responsibility of passing this great heritage on to future generations.
However, we celebrate this year's Vesak festival at a time when the Venerable Sangha in our country faces various challenges.
This is a time for our nation and the Buddhist community to reflect upon the Most Noble Dhamma and shape our lives, as well as the future of this country, upon its teachings.
Today, the teachings of Sammā Sati and Sammā Diṭṭhi are more important than ever before.
May this Vesak Full Moon Poya Day be a guiding light towards our collective understanding of these timeless teachings.
I extend my heartfelt wishes to the Buddhist community living in Sri Lanka and across the world. May this Vesak Full Moon Poya Day be one of commemoration, peace, compassion, and mindfulness.
