We say goodbye to formidable comedic legend Catherine O'Hara. A genius of improv and physical comedy, her bold choices made us laugh until we cried in a career that spanned over five decades. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day, marking over 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. We remember the 6 million Jewish men, women and children murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators. As survivors grow fewer and antisemitism rises, today is more vital than ever.

Went to a fascinating meeting on Small modular reactors yesterday in a very busy day in Westminster (thank you old 1980 team mate Lord Moynihan for not letting me get lost!). We were handed one of these as we left. Take a little read of the can!

I want to celebrate the bravery of thousands of people who are engaging in protest against the oppressive regime in Iran. I remember vividly when the Ayatollah Khomeini was swept to power some forty-six years ago, and I have witnessed the steady and vicious attacks on human dignity perpetrated by the corrupt theocracy he established. Moreover, I’ve watched as the Iranian kleptocracy has systematically de-stabilized the Middle East by fostering Hamas, Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations. Please God that this dishonorable government, which has been a source of so much mischief and suffering these past several decades, will find its way to the trash-heap of history.

The government won’t allow advertisements for cigarettes and you can barely promote alcohol. Why the hell can I not watch five minutes of a sports event without being inundated with gambling ads. This is killing our society. Destroying young men. Time to reframe this.

Tom Stoppard was my favourite playwright. He leaves us with a majestic body of intellectual and amusing work. I will always miss him.

Finding a great read is one of the spin-off benefits of taking time to recover from surgery. Thank you @profgalloway for this. I will now give it to my sons and encourage them to read it as well.

While recuperating from surgery, I've been doing a pile of reading. Mostly scripts...and also a few shorter novels. None more powerful than this. Thanks @johnboyne for the deeply moving story.
