Palestine never existed as a sovereign Arab state. The British Mandate of Palestine was a British regime that gained control of the land of Israel due to the fall of the Ottoman Empire after 1917. Jews lived in the Holy Land (ie, the Old Yishuv) for centuries. Including under the control of the Ottoman Empire, when Jews were the majority of residents in Jerusalem. Before 1909, Tel Aviv was a desert land. The empty land was bought legally by the Jews who turned it over the years into a prosperous city. Not a single Arab was thrown out of his home or cave by the Jews, who again, bought desert lands in the Land of Israel legally and built the kibbutzim (agricultural towns). After the British government turned the mandate back to the U.N., the Arab-Muslim world rejected the UN partition plan and declared war not only against Israel, but also against their own Jewish population. The Arab states ethnically cleansed most of their Jewish population. Most of the Jewish refugees moved to Israel where the armies of Jordan, Syria, Iraq and Egypt joined forces and declared war along with the local Arab population with the public goal of "pushing all the Jews into the sea". During the war of independence the Arab armies who started this war, ordered the local Arabs to leave the combat zones and allow them to annihilate the Jews living there. Some Arabs were also forcibly evacuated during the fighting and moved to nearby territories under the control of Egypt and Jordan (Gaza and the West Bank). Israel has never committed and never will commit genocide. In fact by defending itself Israel is preventing another genocide of Jews. The antisemitism that was festering under the surface for decades, has exploded. And for those of us who stand against it, we are not the popular kids. The so called “cool kids” are wearing a keffiyeh, calling for an intifada and demanding a Palestine between the river and the sea even if they can’t tell you which river or which sea. Standing up for western democratic values against terror and extremism: that is now the counter-culture. Using facts and reason and knowing history: that is now the counter-culture. People! WE are the counterculture. And we are doing it. The Jewish people have found our voice because standing up for what we believe in, even when it’s not popular, is part of who we are. Our tiny people haven’t survived for millennia and outlived every empire that tried to destroy us by always being the cool kids. In fact, we almost never are. B'nai Brith Canada has recently reached out to Canada's Premiers, urging them to prioritize the issue of rising #antisemitism at the upcoming meeting in #Halifax from July 15-17. COO Judy Foldes emphasized that it is crucial for leaders across the country to demonstrate proactive leadership in combating antisemitism. She highlighted that the Premiers have a unique opportunity to send a clear message that antisemitism has no place in Canada.

Toronto has a worsening antisemitism problem. Yesterday, a slew of Swastikas were found graffitied along College Street and overnight the Kehillat Shaarei Torah synagogue was vandalized for the second time in recent weeks. B'nai Brith Canada is calling on the @TorontoPolice to investigate these matters as hate motivated offences. The Mayor @oliviachow and other civic leaders must take immediate action to prevent the further escalation of this alarming trend. SILENCE AND INACTION ON THE PART OF OUR MUNICIPAL OFFICIALS IS ONLY EMBOLDENING THE PERPETRATORS OF THESE DIABOLICAL ACTS AND ENDANGERING THE COMMUNITY.

At $2,400 a *YEAR*, I cannot express how disappointed I am by the federal budget and the #CDB announcement. This will NOT lift pwds out of poverty. Yes, there are other measures that might be helping, but $2,400 a year is going to keep a LOT of people in extreme poverty.
