The World Cup absolutely mogs every other sporting event. It’s what the Olympics wishes it was X100. You’ve got Europeans road-tripping across America and having their minds blown by Buc-ee’s and Bass Pro Shops. You’ve got a small Kansas town falling in love with an Algerian club that chose Kansas City as their homebase. You’ve got South Korea training in Utah to prepare for the altitude in Guadalajara. For one month, the whole world forgets we’re supposed to hate each other over differences that barely matter. It’s the closest thing we have to world peace.

NEW: The best way to answer the biggest questions about UNC's 2026 defense is to carefully review the film of every expected contributor. Having done that, @DocStaples authors his comprehensive and definitive assessment: on3.com/teams/north-carolina…

USA. A Mexican restaurant. We had not yet ordered anything, and the food was already arriving. Chips. Salsa. Unrequested. Free. I stopped the waiter. "We have not earned these." "They just come with the table, man." They come with the TABLE. In my land, hospitality is a debt. Every gift creates an obligation, weighed carefully, returned in the proper season with interest of feeling. Here, the gift arrives before you have even proven you can pay for dinner. This is not an appetizer. This is a declaration: we trust you. Eat. I ate with the gravity the moment deserved. And then — I must report this calmly — the basket emptied, and a new one appeared. "Did we…?" "Refill," the waiter said. "It's bottomless." Bottomless. They have wells of salsa. The supply lines of this nation are beyond anything my ancestors imagined. My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude." Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man. I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy. Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived. I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most. Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and I intend to honor all of it.

The Spurs know how to TAKE the lead, they just don't know how to HOLD the lead. And that's really the most important part of the lead: the holding

Truth be told, we need *more* standardized testing, not less. But instead of the results measuring schools, they should measure individuals only, such that students must be held back or don’t graduate until they pass the necessary standardized exam(s)
Berkeley Professor Mina Aganagic: “‘I realized that for students to follow me…I had to start reviewing basic algebra stuff, like fractions.’ The lack of mathematical fluency, Aganagic said, extended even to ‘the meaning of equals in an equation.’”

Well this is jaw dropping… As a tomboy growing up who loved sports and throwing the football with my father, there is no way so many of us wouldn’t have been caught up in this mess. Creating mass psychosis and medical patients out of normal childhood development is a devastating practice.
The data out of Oregon really are astonishing. A phenomenon once observed in about 1 in 20,000 adult men and 1 in 50,000 adult women (DSM-5) is now being diagnosed and medically treated in at least 1 in 250 17-year-old girls in Oregon.

The schools are not going to go broke paying 20M’s a year(NCAA settlement) to athletes. The boosters are doing the heavy lifting in regard to NIL. FSU’s big money booster pool is much smaller than many of their rivals’.

The schools won't go bankrupt because billionaire boosters are spending a few tens of millions (vacation money for them) on players. This can go on a lot longer because those pockets are very, very deep.
Replying to @DocStaples
A systemic race to the bottom of who can spend the most money with horrendous ROI. Won’t last much longer. Schools will be bankrupt

Perhaps the most obvious example of the Nobody Deserves the Negative Consequences of their Own Actions Era we've seen yet.
Per court: "This court finds that applicant has demonstrated that he will suffer a probable, imminent, and irreparable injury if this court does not issue this temporary injunction because he will be unable to participate as a member of Texas Tech University's 2026 football team."

Exhibit 43567 on how imbalanced the playing field is at this point in terms of NIL and personnel, and there's no fix in sight. #FSU fans upset about football recruiting & personnel should also take note: this is systemic; it's not just about a single coach.

This is ludicrous. At some point, a sport needs to be able to enforce its own rules. Otherwise, what's the point?
NEWS: A judge in district court in Lubbock County, Texas, has granted the injunction requested by Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby. He’s set to be eligible for the 2026 season.

My dumb idea of the day: We should establish something like birthstones, but for men. Instead of each month getting a gemstone, each month gets assigned a cut of meat. January: New York Strip February: Filet Mignon March: Porterhouse And so on. You’d ask a guy his birthday and instead of saying, “Oh, you’re an amethyst,” you’d say, “Ah, February. Filet Mignon. Sensitive, expensive, and a little smaller than expected.” I can hear the commercials already “Celebrate his birth month with the timeless elegance of brisket.”

There's still a full second on the clock when the ball hits the ground on that drop in the end zone. Absolutely should have been an extra play.
September 7th, 2009. Miami upsets #18 FSU in Tallahassee. Great back and forth game. Jacory Harris to Travis Benjamin. Graig Cooper punches in go ahead TD. FSU WR Jarmon Fortson drops game winner. Classic highlight package with the great Neil Everett.
