Replying to @DoctorApples
@DoctorApples and his lab at Cornell report that reducing the crop load on hard cider apple trees minimizes biennial bearing (a large crop one year and then little to no crop the next) and increases profitability. #HortScience doi.org/10.21273/HORTSCI1745… @CornellCALS

Opinion: Based on the fruit offerings in the dining halls, one wouldn't guess that Cornell has a world-class agriculture program. Aurora Weirens '25 calls for that to change. cornellsun.com/2023/09/24/we…

Johnny Appleseed was actually a man named John Chapman, born in 1774 in Massachusetts. Rather than roaming the land scattering apple seeds, as the story goes, Johnny instead planted apple tree nurseries. He introduced apple trees to large parts of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and present-day Ontario. Nearby farmers would tend the nurseries and Johnny returned every year or two to check on his trees. Appleseed accrued much land in his life and it’s estimated that he left an estate of more than 1,200 acres to his sister when he died. We love celebrating this American legend! #Apples #JohnnyAppleseed #Legends
