This month is my job anniversary - 6 years since I've left academia and started to work as an account manager, selling analytical equipment to professors at universities. Leaving academia was very scary, but I couldn't be happier where I am now!
2 years ago, everything was going great in my mid-career lab.
Making a choice to reduce stress and prioritize my health turned out to have ripple effects - my colleagues, family, and friends are reaping the benefits, as am I.

But seriously, as a foreigner, the West Wing taught me so much about the structure of politics! Primaries, Iowa caucuses, Supreme Court, debt ceiling⦠and so much more that is totally different from back home in Brazil.

I get anxious about doing it right. Then think about the next thing I need to do. Then I stressed that I canāt follow the rules. When they say Focus on the backā, Iām like good, weāre half way through this tortureā¦

Last year I actually overpaid my estimated taxes and was excited that I was finally getting a refund after so many years... until my accountant told me that the 'extra payment' is transferred to your next year taxes... š
