While I do have a bunch of #Riftbound QOTDs queued up, I always love having more questions. If you have any questions that you want to be featured in a QOTD, please send them my way by DMing me!

#Riftbound QOTD: My enemy has a 3[M] unit at Abandoned Hall. I play Ride the Wind and target my Ravenbloom Student in base to move there. Ride the Wind resolves. Combat starts; I quickly say "I pass Focus." They also pass. What is the combat result? (Credit: tosheyo)

A: This one is tricky. It will be a tie. Ravenbloom’s Might increase trigger is only observable until the combat damage step, not during the showdown (Admittedly, I could have also stated that the player announces Ravenbloom after the showdown). However, the key point of this question is that because Abandoned Hall is a triggered ability that TARGETS, the player is required to announce it when the condition is met. Because I passed Focus right away and gave my opponent a new action, I have therefore missed the trigger. Aside from common sense, I personally think the observable impact examples (TR 506.3.d.) could also include declaring targets.

#Riftbound QOTD: I successfully conquer a battlefield with a unit that has Last Rites. Could I use Diana's legend ability to help me pay for the cost of reviving a unit?

A: I cannot. Since a showdown ends when both players pass Focus (348.), that means Diana can only spend that 1 energy during the Combat Showdown step (459.). Since conquering happens during the Resolution Step (461.), we cannot use the [1] from Diana (even if it’s floating!)

As the Head TO for Aegis, I have failed you with our mistake and I am very sorry. Our team has already discussed improvements for the future as we reflect how this split has challenged us. We will share those soon. To be very clear, there is no excuse. We have to be better.
Replying to @SeasonofLeavesL
But, I'm making this post to just show why and how it can be fixed. I'm not really that angry, but I just feel bad for my teammates; Phil is retiring/Shern is even done with league. But never do this again please. @AegisEsportsGG 6/7

#Riftbound QOTD: My enemy plays Falling Star and targets 2 of my units at a battlefield. I react with a spell that removes one of the units from the board. Can I now play Repulse to counter Falling Star? Follow-up: My enemy plays Elder Dragon targeting my Unit1 at battlefield and Unit2 at base. I play a spell in reaction that moves Unit2 to the battlefield. Can I now play Repulse to counter Elder Dragon ability?

A: Repulse can counter Falling Star. Repulse cannot counter Elder Dragon (if the Unit2 was never removed from the board). Main rules to look at is 359.3.e.3. & 359.3.e.4.. Even if a unit's targeting restriction is no longer met, they are still being chosen. The exception to this rule is if the unit goes to a non-board zone, THEN they are no longer a game object and the relationship between the card and its target is severed. This is further detailed in the Unleashed FAQ (Ctrl F "Repulse"). Imo, 359.3.e.2. needs to be further clarified that even if the target no longer meets targeting requirements, it was still "chosen" (compared to 359.3.e.4. which makes clear the unit is no longer chosen).

#Liftbound QOTD: A Sett player lost Game 1 but then won Game 2. With the clock at 10 minutes remaining, they decide to do pushups before heading into Game 3. Opponent (who is playing Aurora) calls judge and says the Sett is slow playing. What should the judge do here?

A: The judge should also do pushups or else Sett will leverage his criminal connections 👀 But in all seriousness, a Slow Play Warning would be dealt to the Sett player and the match will have a small (5? minutes) time extension. An investigation would also be warranted if there's enough evidence that they are stalling (TR 703.2.c.). Please don't do this during your matches 🤣 Figured some fun would be nice today :) We'll be back to our normal rules questions tomorrow.

#Riftbound QOTD: I play Ashe Focused and banish a card from my enemy's hand. Later in the game, my enemy successfully holds and Ashe trigger is forgotten. A turn later, the enemy realizes they should have gotten the card back. They call a judge. Who gets what penalty?

A: Because I own Ashe, the trigger (for my enemy's card) is my responsibility. Therefore, it is a Missed Trigger penalty and because it was advantageous, I would be dealt a Warning. Because the trigger was missed from a previous turn, we would continue play (TR 702.2.f.1). Few things to note (about this obnoxiousness): - My enemy would never receive a FMGS or Angle Shooting warning as they were not responsible for the trigger. An argument could be made that the enemy is trying to fish a warning for the opponent (angle shooting), but that would require an investigation. - If my enemy holds again later in the game, it would trigger Ashe (as it is a delayed trigger) and there would be another opportunity to restore the banished card back to the hand. I would advise many Yellow deck players that when using Ashe, put their banished card tucked behind your legend so you have a physical reminder to return the card back to them when they hold. I personally think this rule needs a revision, but I'm not exactly sure of a good suggestion.

#Riftbound QOTD: I hold with a unit that has Last Rites. I trigger it to play Blitzcrank Impassive from the trash. I choose to trigger it and target an enemy unit. If Blitzcrank resolves, where does combat begin in respect to the ABCD phases?

A: We must finish cleanup (as part of HOT) in the scoring step of the beginning phase. Since cleanup involves starting combat, it will begin there during the Beginning Phase (and before channeling 2 new runes). It's a weird one, but looks like nearly everyone's got this!

#Riftbound QOTD: Let's revisit this again... I play Fizz Trickster and target a spell from my trash; Fizz resolves. My enemy reacts with Abandon and targets that spell. If Abandon resolves, does the spell go to my hand or gets recycled?

A: When Unleashed was released, Riot has clarified that Fizz's replacement effect is: "if that spell would leave the chain for any reason, recycle it instead." Since countering a spell makes it leave the chain (425.1.a.), Fizz would recycle it. It is not yet clarified in text, but I imagine Fizz (and Kai'sa) will receive an errata in the July update.

#Riftbound QOTD: I have 0 cards left in my deck. If any of the following cards resolved, would it result in a Burn Out? Answer Yes/No to each card. A) Diana Lunari B) Hwei Brooding Painter C) Garbage Grabber D) Called Shot

A: 431.1.c. and 431.1.c.1. is the key here. A) No. Per 431.1.c., Diana would attempt to look but there are no cards. Rest of instruction is then executed, where she also reveals nothing and as a result does not draw anything. B) Yes. You draw as your first action. C) No. Recycling the cards is a cost for the activated ability. When the item resolves, there are 3 cards in your deck. D) No. Per 431.1.c.1., we are attempting to take subsequent actions after looking an insufficient number of cards. Therefore, this instruction to draw is IGNORED.

#Riftbound QOTD: I move 4 Plundering Poros to attack a single 1[M] Recruit at a battlefield. My enemy plays Moonfall and targets that battlefield and one Poro. Is this legal? If so, what are the deaths and results of this combat? If not, why? (Credit: tosheyo)

A: LET’S ASSUME I AM PLAYING SEALED AND I LOVE PIRATE LOOKING POROS TO WANT 4 OF THEM 🙃 This is a legal play. When playing Moonfall, the only choices that need to be made are: - A battlefield where you have units - Up to one enemy unit Moonfall is a Linked Ability where the reference of “that battlefield” on the 2nd sentence is linked to the choice made on the 1st sentence. As a result, “that battlefield” has already been determined and does not require choosing a valid destination for moving. All Poros the will be hit with -2[M] and will be 0[M]. The 1[M] Recruit assigns 1 damage and only kills 1 Poro. This results in a “No Result” and I will recall my 3 remaining Poros back to base.

Gonna quickly correct myself here: this is a "linked instruction", not a Linked Ability. Cards that have linked abilities are Ashe Focused and Akshan Mischievous.
