I've often wondered where the birth certificate claim, re Doris Speed and her 'real age' came from. I guess now we now. It was from the Daily Star, 8 October 1983. Knew it would be from a ghastly newspaper.

40 years ago today, The Mirror boasted they had uncovered Doris Speed's real age and gleefully reported on it. Callous. Doris was ill in hospital, and had done nothing to hurt anyone. It really upset her and she never returned to Corrie. The Stage condemned it a few weeks later.

This was brilliant. Doris Speed had been Annie on a different set in different times (1960-1983), but as soon as she got behind that bar she was the landlady again! Legend! 😍

Only Annie could effortlessly bring the word "deportment" into a conversation with Hilda.

Thinking about in Julie’s book when she thought she’d be getting a telling off from Doris Speed just to be informed she could now call her ‘Doris’ 😆
