"Though I am an entomologist, I did not realize that insects were "the little things that run the world" until Wilson explained why this is so in 1987." x.com/UDcanr/status/14780280…

E.O. Wilson was an extraordinary scholar in every sense of the word. @UDelaware's Doug Tallamy paid tribute to the late biologist, who was the first to understand the evolutionary basis of both animal and human societies. salon.com/2021/12/30/eo-wils… #UDel #Entomology #Sustainability

I didn’t care about gardening until my husband and I went to a Doug Tallamy lecture. Since then, I have been converting my yard from lawn to as many native plants as I can fit in it. It’s manual labor with the reward of beautiful flowers that help and attract beneficial wildlife.

Instead of whipping their lawn into shape, @UDelaware's Doug Tallamy encourages people give up that perfectly manicured green carpet and let their lawns go for the sake of birds, insects and the environment. whyy.org/episodes/letting-la… #UDel #Ecology #Gardening #NativePlants

"First and foremost, we must landscape with plants that support local food webs, for it is the transfer of energy from plants to animals that enables the animals that run our ecosystems to exist." x.com/HNPontheMap/status/152…

Nonnative plants are EVERYWHERE & not just invasive. We must understand their impacts on insect decline & their interactive/additive impacts with other population stressors like artificial light and climate change fun to put this together with #dougtallamy and @Calosoma_amitch!

Here's the whole comic, feel free to share! & link to the OA paper. We hope this sparks new conversations about the nuance & importance of plant species identity even among #nativeplants, and is also helpful for anyone doing on-the-ground restoration. nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

If you're gardening in the mid-Atlantic region, here are the top host plants for Lepidoptera larvae. Many thanks to Dr. Tallamy for providing this data and I think @DLNarango helped with this research!
