Such dispiriting news, such an important company for the new writing community of the South West. Where is the expertise, the support of playwrights & the production of new plays, beyond one person shows, going to come from in the region? All strength @Jon__Nash & Sam Parker
ICYMI: New writing company @DownStageWrite1 - devoted to playwrights in Devon and Cornwall - will close after admitting it is "unsustainable to continue in the current arts funding landscape.

Sad to hear this news. I remember the first scratch they held at Exeter Phoenix. At a time when Exeter theatre scene was feeling a little lost after Bike Shed closure. It was fizzing with energy & talent. No doubt Jon & Sam will continue to champion new writing via other avenues.

This won't get as much traction as VAULT's closure has, but @DownStageWrite1 closing yet more devastating news for theatre. The work that Jon & Sam have done in supporting writers in Devon and Cornwall has been remarkable, particularly when other support in this area has reduced.
