It's taken a while (around 10 years for some of the data!) but our dive into the physiological function of RBC circadian rhythms is out in @embojournal. The story began with observations of rhythm on a blot of RBCs even when there was no antibody... embopress.org/doi/full/10.15…

Given the population bias to the northern hemisphere but seemingly the vegetation bias to the south, I wonder if we have a seasonal global CO2 rhythm? Though perhaps there are too many factors acting in opposition to see such a rhythm - forest fires, household heating etc

Out today! Circadian rhythms in proteome turnover, especially macromolecular complexes, which allow proteome renewal even under cellular proteostasis, osmostasis, and energy homeostasis constraints: embopress.org/doi/full/10.10…

Very much enjoyed going into my local primary school for Science Week #BSW24. With the theme of "Time" I just had to get involved! I managed to link the @ScienceWeekUK resources on pendulums to circadian clocks via a demo of coupled metronomes - much fun was had 🧑‍🔬🕒

In #SRBR2024 #Wikithon, we'll be looking at editing chronobiology pages. In this paper, @rona_av @omerbenj examine edits to "Circadian clock" and "Circadian rhythm" and reveal how arguments and paradigm shifts are encoded in the pages' metadata: buff.ly/3SHjjyH

Just over 3 months until the #SRBR2024 Trainee Day #Wikithon. In the next few weeks, on Thursdays, we'll be exploring chronobiological precidents on @Wikipedia. Today from the archives - circadian patterns of Wikipedia editing activity: buff.ly/3uqKzJn

Using recent crash-level data, I show that a pedestrian hit by a full-size SUV is twice as likely to die compared to being struck by a car, under similar crash conditions.

Lol. Lol at this whole thread but particularly at this salary bit which threatens basically all scientific research done in this country. Please can you come up with some useful policies?

A tweet back to circadian biology: John and Andrew @DrBatmo were interviewed on the EMBO podcast about the story behind our recent paper on physiological function of red blood cell rhythms. Link below

For fuck's sake, stop stoking a stupid culture war and come up with at least one policy that makes lives better instead - preferably one looking more than 15 mthss ahead. Science is NOT in danger from "woke ideology", which is a bullshit invented culture war concept anyway.
NEW: Conservatives are safeguarding scientific research from the denial of biology and the steady creep of political correctness. @michelledonelan announces plans to depoliticise science at #CPC23
