I welcome Denmark’s announcement that it will allocate 60% of climate financial aid to climate adaptation measures in its national budget proposal.
This is a powerful example of #ClimateAction leadership for other donor countries & multilateral development banks to follow.
An incredibly important thread on the scope creep of contact tracing in Singapore -- can we prevent this in other jurisdictions? Rolling back surveillance once it's in place is a monumental task.
🧵on #Covid19 tech surveillance in 🇸🇬
1/ Unlike this time last year, when Singapore's epidemic curve shot up and we were seeing new cases in the 100s/1000s (mostly within migrant worker dorms), the number of cases have come right down now, and tend to be mostly imported cases.
I am so sick of the ignorance of (math) academics who have no idea that the security sector includes food security, water security, assistance for refugees and IDPs, disaster relief, actually providing the on-the-ground support for the world's most vulnerable people. (1/7)
Similarly, if we investigate the security sector, we find that there are far more people doing the irrationally difficult work of caring for people and for the planet than those spying on citizens, building bombs, etc. (5/7)
This isn't splitting hairs, this isn't me saying "not all {men, cops}", this is me saying that the word security has a meaning - and it isn't what many of us have been brainwashed to believe. I get being mad at certain orgs - I know I am! But find a better word. (6/7)

I am really looking forward to presenting to @maanow#ProjectNExT fellows tomorrow! I will be taking one of the hands-on learning activities from my book with Julie Barnes and showing how it can be modified for use in an online setting. bookstore.ams.org/clrm-54
