View of this morning's partial solar #eclipse over McNabs Island in #Halifax harbour. Very lucky to catch a glimpse, it clouded over 15 minutes after sunrise. Plus, however you look at it, a rising crescent Sun is pretty amazing! #photography
ALT View of a crescent Sun rising in the distance over trees. A single band of cloud stretches across the horizon.
The colours are still glorious in the low morning ☀! Just a few quick pics from the @smuhalifax campus this morning. Dare I say there is a little bit of pareidolia going on in the pic of the canopy of the crimson maple? 😀#photography
ALT Close-up of red maple leaves. Three larger leaves reach out toward the camera, while in the background grass and the rest of the canopy can be seen.
ALT View looking up to the canopy of a crimson maple (which has turned a surprising orange/red this year). Looking at the arrangement of boughs, it is almost like a mouth and eye can be seen.
ALT Looking into the trunk of a tree backlit by the Sun. The light filters through the leaves giving a glowing orange tint.
ALT Ultrawide angle view of a young maple that has turned a ruddy orange. The limbs reach out to the camera, distorted by the wide angle perspective.
Speechless. Never seen so much red in an aurora! All the way over #Halifax too! I have never ever been able to see aurora to the south of where I was 🤯#aurora
ALT Looking south, a structure in the red (oxygen) is clearly visible in the sky along with two stars.
ALT Looking east, patches of green interlaced in the red. Shadow of a tree can be seen to the left.
ALT Again looking slightly east, red and fringes of green are visible, streaking along field lines.
ALT Looking west, the silhouette of trees fill the bottom of the image. Structure is visible in the red moving north to south along with some less bright green structures.
Last night I had a quick chat with @BruceFriskoCTV about SpaceX's Polaris Dawn mission, along with some of the key aspects of radiation hazards in space travel. This is obviously relevant to any potential missions to Mars and space weather forecasting. atlantic.ctvnews.ca/video/c2…
A couple more images from the BC rockies at @missmistaya. The spire is visible from the patio at the lodge, while the rock is in Wildcat Creek, a 15 minute walk from the front door. #photography
ALT A long exposure showing water rushing around the edge of rock in Wildcat Creek. As the flow shapes around the rock, foam builds up in the highest flow areas.
ALT A spire visible from the front patio at the lodge. A row of spruces fills the bottom of the image, while the spire itself rises up from the centre left, reaching up to the top of the image. The background shows a glacier reaching even higher into the range.
One can't go far in AB/BC without seeing the impact of the wildfires. Smoke obscures many beautiful views over the foothills and mountains. Cooler conditions and rain have helped, but many fires will likely run for sometime. #photography
ALT View from the ridge at the west of the bowl near Mistaya Lodge. LMC sits in a rubble field, in the distance is a valley and ridge of mountains obscured by the smoke in the air. Clouds fill the sky.
ALT Sunset looking west from the Mistaya Lodge helipad. A ridge of mountains stretches from left to right and are silhouetted by the Sun that has set behind them. Clouds rise up in the gold of the sky.
ALT A ground squirrel is on its back legs and alert for danger. It's eyes scan to the right of the image.
ALT Smoke fills the Alberta foothills. A series of layers is visible stretching to the horizon. Each one is progressively more obscurred than the previous. Smoke seems to cling to the valleys in between.
The #crocosmia are in full bloom. Will try and get a few hummingbird pics... #Halifax
ALT Two large sprays of red croscosmia flowers fill the image. The green leaves and stem provide a backdrop to the dozens of individual flower stems. Three houses can be seen in the background.
