So what? 1.Starting salary matters for recruitment. This complements evidence on importance of pay for retention. 2. Recruitment campaigns should emphasise extrinsic rewards, alongside meaningful aspects. Great 2015 example here - watch to the end! youtube.com/watch?v=vTzzZaaJ…

Hi X 👋🏻 Is there anyone out there who a) knows how to write basic C scripts and b) interested in joining a research project looking at behaviour/attention in the classroom? ~2 of work in total. You would be a coauthor on paper. Please do get in touch!

Primary educators 👋🏻 I am interviewing teachers for a research project aimed at understanding how teachers learn from each other in the workplace. But my sample is currently very secondary heavy… Could you (please!) spare me an hour of your time this week or next? Thanks!

My friend Natasha Raheem @Dixons_OS is writing an important book about schools that support student and teacher belonging. She is looking for case studies of schools doing great work in this area. If you know of good examples, please DM me. Thanks!

📊 New Research on Teaching for Near Transfer @JohnPeterJerrim @DrSamSims @odmarcenaro used data on 280,000 students from the 2019 TIMMS study, no link was found between teaching methods aimed at transferring knowledge & students’ ability to solve unfamiliar maths problems. Key findings: 🔍 Approaches like linking new content to prior knowledge, solving problems independently and applying lessons to real-life didn’t improve performance on unfamiliar problems. 📖 Even “near transfer” (applying knowledge to similar situations) proved difficult for primary students. 📈 The study used data from TIMSS, focusing on non-curriculum questions to test knowledge application. These findings challenge assumptions about teaching for transfer and highlight the complexity of helping students apply their learning in new contexts. Further research is needed to uncover better strategies. 🔓Full article sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
