Insurance Cartels Are Killing Quality Healthcare in Kenya
Insurance companies have placed themselves between doctors and patients, deciding which hospitals you visit, which doctors you see, which tests you take, and which drugs you receive.
They delay payments, force hospitals to demand cash, drain public funds by making SHA pay upfront, raise premiums while capping provider charges, and blackmail healthcare providers into submission.
Meanwhile, regulators like the Competition Authority and the Insurance Regulatory Authority continue to look away.
KMPDU will soon release a “List of Shame” to guide Kenyans on which insurance companies to avoid.
As we fight this injustice, let us not forget that Kiambu doctors remain on strike for 85 days, standing firm for fair treatment and dignity at work.
The message is clear: Healthcare is about People, not Profits.
