The Southeast has gotten a few rounds of rain over the past few weeks, bringing some much-needed relief. Despite widespread improvements, significant long-term drought remains in the region. A surplus of moisture will need to continue for lake and groundwater levels to recharge.

Abnormal dryness through exceptional drought improved: for abnormal dryness or drought, from 100% to 97%; for moderate drought or worse, from 96.42% to 87.99%; for severe drought or worse, from 82.32% to 61.64; for extreme drought, from 39.45% to 26.49%; and for exceptional drought, from 8.41% to 2.01%.
