Excavators have begun dredging sections of the Wewe River at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), as authorities work to reclaim drainage capacity and strengthen the University's long-term flood resilience. The exercise, being undertaken through a collaboration between KNUST, the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and the Ashanti Regional Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), follows an assessment that identified river overflow, silted channels and restrictions within drainage pathways as contributing factors to the recent incident. A Student Representative Council (SRC) presidential aspirant at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Nana Agyekum Boateng, popularly known as Dr. Walker, has won admiration after being spotted showing care and concern for two female students during a rainfall. In a video that has since attracted attention online, Dr. Walker was seen holding an umbrella and escorting the students to a waiting bus, ensuring they remained sheltered from the downpour.

[ AN OFFICIAL INFORMATION ] Severe rainfall has left parts of KNUST facing significant flooding, with a number of key walkways and bridge crossings becoming difficult to access. The situation has affected movement across campus, forcing many students and staff to seek safer alternative routes while concerns over safety continue to grow.
