The Handkerchief Tree near the watermill was reputed to have been smuggled to Dunster by the lady of the house, Alys Luttrell.
In spring the flowers make the tree look like it's covered in handkerchiefs, but at this time of year it's covered in these impressive seeds.
ALT A photograph of the branches of a handkerchief tree in autumn. There are large, round seed pods hanging from stems on the branches and large leaves which are turning from green to brown.
