‘Is that a threat?’ *gravelly voice with English accent* ‘Now if I were you, and I would not want to be you, I’d make sure I knew the difference between a threat and a promise’

Richard Robson always had very small research groups and limited, sporadic funding. This has never been better illustrated than by the acknowledgement slides to the Nobel lectures of Robson, Kitagawa, and Yaghi (only 1 of 4 slides shown below). #ozchem #NobelPrize

1/2 🧪 Iodine is a critical ingredient in the chemical industry as a reagent which converts stable Carbon-Hydrogen (C-H) bonds into unstable and reactive Carbon-Iodine (C-I) bonds – prized for their ability to help change and create new molecules. Read: pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.102…

Just out online in @NatRevChem - my article on the #elementsets project. Read all about the journey from crazy and naive late night thought bubble to 1.5 million better student lessons on the periodic table here: rdcu.be/el2F4. #ozchem #outreach

In a couple weeks I’ll be playing 72 holes of golf in a day (carrying the whole way!) in honour of one of the Friday golf crew lost this year to raise money for cancer research. Please consider throwing down a few bucks for the cause! longestday.org.au/fundraiser…

If the AI can do your assessment and this also bothers you….you can’t do that assessment anymore and are going to have to think of something else.

Of course. It’s called Research, not Refind.
What do you think, can you graduate and get a PhD if you did everything right but didn't get any original results worth publishing? I have a feeling most people would say 'no', but in my opinion it's a 'yes'. Where would science be if we don't try things that can fail?

A great team effort here led by Marcus, for whom ‘this works OK’ was not nearly good enough and spent a year making it work awesome. Want to iodinate a difficult arene but don’t want to use straight H2SO4 as your solvent? This ‘ll do it. chemrxiv.org/engage/chemrxiv…
