A few strong to severe thunderstorms with damaging winds are possible this afternoon and evening, mainly for western MA and CT. Elsewhere, there is a risk for non-severe thunderstorms. The best chance for a thunderstorm will be after 3PM.

A high wind warning in effect for coastal RI, coastal and SE MA and the Cape & Islands. Southerly wind gusts to 55 to 65 mph are possible, peaking from late morning into early afternoon. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the rest of southern New England for gusts to 40 to 55 mph.

A period of locally heavy rainfall, strong to damaging wind gusts and unseasonably mild temperatures are expected late tonight into early Friday afternoon. Gradually drying out late afternoon, then turning much colder Friday night with a surge of strong west wind gusts.
